What will Lifting the Burden do in each locality?
In each locality Lifting The Burden will:
- measure the headache burden;
- raise awareness of it amongst those who can cause change;
- work with people and agencies locally;
- put in place, and test, locally-appropriate health-care solutions.
Activities on national or locality fronts support change in individual countries, and range from new epidemiological studies (Campaign stage 1) through awareness initiatives (Campaign stage 2) to interventional projects. Interventions, from beachheads through planned learning exercises to full demonstrational projects, are stage 3 of the Campaign.
New epidemiological studies conducted on national or locality fronts produce knowledge for action on those fronts as well as contributing to the estimate of global burden.
The strategy for targeting interventions first requires development and agreement of criteria for priority. In relation to any proposal, the following are needed: contacts of some sort in the targeted area, research of needs, appropriate, achievable and agreed objectives and early contact with WHO Regional Offices and national WHO representatives and/or collaborating centres.
